hope everyone is enjoying the new year so far - i've been spending mine, well, reading a shit ton of comics (lotsa batman!), selling books, and watching a pretty fascinating doc about the 90s wwe vs. wcw era of wrestling !
So many Angelika memories. One that is particularly vivid is watching Ghost Dog on opening night and there being no subtitles for Ghost Dog's French-speaking friend. Everyone was like "should we know what he's saying? Because he's talking kind of a lot". After the film ended they announced that there WERE supposed to be subtitles and that we had watched a defective print. The management offered everyone free tickets to see the movie again the next morning at 8am (!!!) with the subtitles. For several reasons I did not take them up on this offer.
It is so comforting to know that whatever awful shit will (inevitably) happen this year, there'll always be a glimpse of light from you guys. Everything is getting more expensive every day and you're lowering your fees. On Martin Luther King's day. I'll stick with you forever.
Data as currency is a harmful metaphor and should be drop from our vocabulary except for the purposes of explaining propaganda/marketing to younger generations. Currency can be spent once. Data can be used forever. Currency can have one owner. Data can be held by many.
Reasoning: As expressed by the subtitle, companies: (1) Battle to capture and own your data, which then becomes their property; then (2) use the captured data to assume control of your life, as if it were their own property; making decisions on their behalf to which you are bound while depriving you of all possible rights of control of your own life. 041b061a72
