Plot Summary

The film follows the story of Mika, a shy and innocent freshman who loses her cell phone and finds it with the help of an unknown caller. The caller turns out to be Hiro, a rebellious senior with dyed white hair, who shows her a photo of the sky as proof of his identity. Mika is initially scared of Hiro, but soon becomes attracted to him and they start dating.

However, their romance is not smooth sailing, as they have to deal with Hiro's ex-girlfriend Saki, who is still obsessed with him and hires a group of men to rape Mika. Mika survives the ordeal with Hiro's help, but becomes the target of bullying and rumors at school. Hiro protects Mika from the harassment, but also distances himself from her at times. Mika later discovers that she is pregnant with Hiro's child, and they decide to keep the baby and get married with their parents' consent.

Their happiness is short-lived, as Mika suffers a miscarriage after a fight with Saki. Hiro blames himself for the loss of their child, and breaks up with Mika without explanation. Mika is heartbroken and tries to move on with her life, meeting a kind college student named Yu, who supports her and helps her parents reconcile. On the anniversary of their baby's death, Mika visits the grave and finds Hiro there as well. She learns from Hiro's friend Nozomu that Hiro has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and that he broke up with her to spare her from the pain.

Mika rushes to the hospital to see Hiro, who is in his final stages. They confess their love for each other and spend their last moments together. Hiro dies in Mika's arms, leaving her a letter and a photo of the sky. Mika vows to live on for Hiro's sake, and visits his grave every year with Nozomu.
